![]() Introduction to yellow roses: Humans can differentiate subtle tonal variations in yellow better than any color, which means that we must be careful when placing yellow flowers next to each other. Especially be wary of planting golden (warm) yellows next to lemon (cool) yellows. Separate cool and warm yellows with gray, white, and blue. White plays well against yellow, each enlivening the other's already bright countenance. Purple or blue flowers are outstanding, especially when blue/purple perennials are planted around yellow roses. When you select purple flowers to plant with yellow roses, stay away from magenta as the yellow/magenta combination moves towards the dreaded orange/magenta combo, which rarely works out. Excellent perennials to plant with
yellow roses include Artemsia (Silver King and the superlative Powis Castle) and lamb's
ears in the silver palette. There are plenty of white perennials (and white roses)
