Pure white roses are actually quite rare; Bourbon rose Boule de Neige bears clusters of buds tinged red, but opens to a flower of unblemished, chaste white. Blossoms are fully double and globular in form. Due to the many petals, Boule de Neige is susceptible to balling, but this should not stop you from including this magnificent rose in your garden.

Zéphirine Drouhin is one of the most popular Bourbon roses, and with good reason. Major flushes of intensely pink blooms occur in spring and fall, with lesser flowering occurring intermittently during summer. The flowers are gorgeous high-centered cerise-pink affairs, and they are borne on canes which are nearly thornless. This rose would be a good choice for high-traffic areas or those places where children play. Fragrance, typical of Bourbon roses, is outstanding.
Rose Souvenir de La Malmaison is a prototype for the promise of old roses. Beautiful, large fully quartered blooms last well on a disease resistant bush and in vase. Souvenir de La Malmaison, a Bourbon rose, blooms repeatedly throughout the season. Fragrance is excellent, apple, clove, and cinnamon (although I don’t smell the cinnamon).
A sport of the wonderful Madame Isaac Pereire, the Bourbon rose Madame Ernst Calvat bears quartered flowers of light to medium pink. It is also slightly less vigorous than its parent, growing to five or six feet in height. Useful as a pillar or pegged, Madame Ernst Calvat may also be grown as a free-standing shrub.

The Bourbon rose ‘Madame Isaac Pereire’ is a must for every rose garden. Well-formed, fully quartered blooms are a lovely
color which is somewhere between purple and pink; there must be a designation on some artist’s color chart to describe it, but words are not adequate. Quality of bloom may not be of a high standard on young plants, but be patient because flowers later in the season will reward. Like many Bourbon roses, fragrance is memorable, rich and intense.
