Gardenmob readers have come to expect a certain amount of love passed from me to coneflowers, especially pale coneflower. There is one notable exception in this lovefest - the Big Sky coneflowers. White coneflower is one of my favorites. Not as robust in growth as purple coneflower, but that’s okay - white is always appreciated in any garden. White coneflower, like most coneflowers, is easy once established.

I love white coneflowers. I agree about the Big Sky series. Those are mutants which do not want to grow properly!

I love the Pale Coneflower. I just wish I could find it in my local nurseries.

I do not like the white as much as the purple. The white looks like a true white color and I appreciate a true white plant. It is well defined and a comes back each year so it is a friend of mines. I will plant some next year in my garden. Want a good tip? Read “Diary of a Wannabe Gardener.” Every gardener will enjoy this funny, colorful and entertaining book about a gardener trying to create the perfect flower garden. The purple coneflower is my very favorite flower period. I do like it when combined with the white in plantings - as they provide a nice contrast with each other. Great photos!

The purple and white are always great clumped together. Has anyone had any luck using the root(s) for medicine?
@Lewis: Where are you located?
You might be able to find some pale coneflower at your local nurseries by checking here: http://www.lgyp.com/Pale_Coneflower_in_.htm

I also planted white Coneflowers this year. They were lovely. However, for the first time…..they were eaten by deer!
My pink ones were eaten too.
Next year I’ll have to spray them. Up to this point, Coneflowers were pretty deer resistant.

I’m glad to hear that you enjoy at least some of these pollinator-favorites! Are your whites fragrant? I’ve seen a “fragrant” white in catalogs…just wondering if it DOES smell good.

Barrie,
Thank you for your post about the white coneflower. I am developing a great deal of respect for people who are passionate about gardens and gardening because I truly believe that these are healthy, intrinisically rewarding activities that offer a sanctuary from the rat-race, hectic life styles that are becoming more evident in our society everyday.
