Bred by legendary breeder Griffin Buck, shrub rose Folksinger has soft buff yellow blooms that are soft and lovely. Folksinger might be the answer for those of us who appreciate a yellow rose or three. This is a rose for those who enjoy fragrance and toughness of character. Yellow roses tend to be blackspot ridden problem children. You might want to read about yellow roses and blackspot.

There is a gentleness to the blooms that belies the inherent strength bred into all Griffin Buck roses. Folksinger grows to three to four feet, and foliage is a bronze-green, leathery. Cold hardy to Zone 4 with protection.

Griffin Buck
Breeding roses in Iowa is no small feat, and Griffin Buck exhibited a dedication to developing tough, cold-hardy roses that has resulted in his roses deservedly gaining an ever-growing legion of fans. In the 1950’s, Buck began cross-breeding cold hardy roses with selected Hybrid Teas. The seedlings that managed to survive winter were then exposed to the humidity and blackspot of summer. Tough proving grounds, but the roses that made it, like Buck, had character. Buck’s approach to breeding was based upon a guiding set of ethics that valued traits apparently not important to either the American Rose Society or Jackson and Perkins.
