Rose Perdita
Introduced:
1983, David Austin, UK'Rose Perdita'
Class:  Shrub / English
Zones:  4b-9
Parentage:  'The Friar' x (Seedling x 'Iceberg')
Flowers:  Cream to Apricot (yellow or orange hues) develop in warm weather). Cupped, double.
Size:  3 x 3 feet (warm climates)
3 x 3 feet (cool climates)
Fragrance:  Strong, Tea Rose

Of note:  Softly hued flowers repeat well and are very fragrant.  Somewhat shade tolerant.

'Perdita' bears clusters of flowers which move through a range of color as they mature, starting as creamy buff buds which change to soft peach or apricot as they open.   Repeat bloom is good.  Fragrance is excellent indeed; 'Perdita' was awarded the Royal National Rose Society's Henry Edland Medal for Fragrance in 1984.

'Perdita' takes a couple of years to become well established in the garden, maintaining an open habit until the center of the shrub begins to fill in.   Growth habit is slightly arching.

Named for Perdita, daughter of the King of Sicilia in The Winter's Tale, by William Shakespeare.
