Introduced: 1986, David Austin, UK Class: Shrub / English Zones: 5a-9 Parentage: ('Lilian Austin' x seedling) x ('Iceberg' x 'Wife of Bath') Flowers: Buff yellow/apricot, 3-4", rosette Size: 4 feet x 3 feet (warm climates) 3 feet x 3 feet (cold climates) Fragrance: Strong Of note: Smaller growing option for a David Austin yellow rose. Susceptible to blackspot. Less often offered commercially than the large-growing, yellow 'Graham Thomas', 'English Garden' is a good choice for smaller spaces. Shallow-cupped blossoms of excellent form are pale yellow, with the possibility of pinkish tones being present during cooler weather (color is somewhat paler than 'Graham Thomas'). Repeat bloom is excellent, and fragrance is strong. Growth habit is somewhat upright to three feet or so, with light green foliage that may show evidence of blackspot unless a spray program is implemented. Rust may also be an issue in areas where this malady is prevalent. |
