de Brabant Introduced: 1857, Bernede, France ![]() Class: Tea Zones: 7-11 Parentage: Unknown Flowers: Soft to bright pink; double, cupped Size: 4 feet/4 feet Fragrance: Reliable, Intense Of note: Good health and classic flowers make this a wonderful rose for beginner and expert alike. Excellent re-bloom over a long season. Superb fragrance. 'Duchesse de Brabant' is a 'must have' for the garden. Read on to find out why... According to a letter from his wife printed in an American Rose Society publication, 'Duchesse de Brabant' was Teddy Roosevelt's favorite rose; he often wore it as a boutonniere. A hundred and forty years after its introduction and decades after it graced the lapel of Teddy, this rose is still great. Large, lovely pink flowers bloom continuously on a disease resistant vase-shaped shrub. The blossoms are distinctly cupped examples of the finest of the old rose ideal. Fragrance is memorable and guaranteed to stimulate even those of limited olfactory capability. Hardiness is better than most teas, and healthy, light-green foliage is slightly wavy. To recap, 'Duchesse de Brabant' features large, luxurious flowers, intense fragrance, healthy foliage, and graceful habit; how many modern roses offer such qualities? |
