Parentage:  R. Rugosa hybrid x 'Gloire de Dijon'

Of note:  Attractive blossoms borne on a plant of dependability and vigor. Fragrance which will waft long distances in the garden.

'Conrad Ferdinand Meyer' is tremendously thorny.  This might be an unusual way to introduce a rose, but I am always somewhat awed by the fierce thorns that clothe this well-armed plant.  Besides (or despite) the impressive thorns, 'Conrad Ferdinand Meyer' has much to recommend it.  The flowers are lovely from bud through bloom, opening to large, informal blossoms of soft pink.  Fragrance is truly memorable, capable of penetrating deep into the garden.

Growth is strong and upright, with the plant forming a slight arching form.  It may be grown as a climber, although the stiff stems will have to be trained early while they are still reasonably flexible.  Perhaps a better use is as a large shrub of six feet or so.  Disease resistance is good, although it may be prone to Rust in areas where this affliction is prevalent.  Unusual for a Rugosa, winter hardiness is not so excellent, most likely due to the Tea influence from its parent, 'Gloire de Dijon' (Unknown Tea x 'Souvenir de La Malmaison').
