Baronne Prévost Related Links: Old Roses Introduced: 1842, by M. Desprez Class: Hybrid Perpetual Zones: 5-10 Parentage: unknown Flowers: Clear pink Very large, wide, flat, quartered Size: 4 feet x 3 feet Fragrance: Excellent Of note: Large 5" flowers. Superb re-bloom. This is one of the best repeat bloomers of any rose, old or modern. 'Baronne Prévost' is perhaps the finest of the Hybrid Perpetual class. While the blooms are not quite as memorable as the huge flowers of 'Paul Neyron', due to good health and better growth habit, 'Baronne Prévost' is a stronger choice. Very large flowers are produced freely over a long season, and have enough substance to last well on the bush and as a cut flower. Blooms are large, to 5 inches across, and the clear pink color stands out well against healthy, light green foliage. Baronne Prévost seems to have less trouble with fungus diseases than other Hybrid Perpetuals, so those of us who attempt to limit our use of chemicals in the garden take heed. Growth is upright (very upright) to a height of four feet or so, and 'Baronne Prévost' would fit well in beds which include Hybrid Teas. Tolerant of a wide range of climactic conditions, 'Baronne Prévost' thrives in both hot and cold climates (to zone 3). I have found that blackspot may be a problem, so a spray program may be necessary in areas where blackspot is prevalent. |
