AARS:   1969, Swim & Weeks, USAAngel Face
Class:   Floribunda
Zones:  5-9 (Protect in zone 5)
Parentage:  ('Circus' x 'Lavender Pinnochio') x 'Sterling Silver'
Flowers:   Deep mauve; ruffled, 35-40 petals

Size:   2 to 3  feet
Fragrance:   Excellent

Strengths:   Unusual color, Superb fragrance.

'Angel Face' is a tremendous rose.  Ruffled, deep mauve flowers are produced profusely on a vigorous, low-growing shrub which is winter hardy.  Fragrance is superb, with the only drawback being that 'Angel Face' is so low-growing that the scent may not reach your nose unless you bend over to enjoy it.

I would not classify 'Angel Face' as disease resistant; blackspot may mar the foliage from time to time.  However, if you provide excellent growing conditions (good soil preparation, good drainage, adequate sunlight), she should do just fine.

A note about 'blue roses'...
Perhaps because it is so elusive, the pursuit of a 'blue' rose has been the goal of many a breeder.  Development of a truly blue rose may not be possible because the pigment (delphinidin) which is responsible for the color blue in flowers is not present in roses.  The closest anyone has come has been lavender roses, normally moving magenta tones towards the blue end of the scale.  The problem is that most of the lavender roses introduced have also been plagued with weak growth, shy blooming, and lack of general health.   'Sterling Silver', a lavender of heart-breaking beauty, is my own personal Waterloo.
